Character speech pattern generator
How speech patterns differentiate characters
The way a character speaks shows their habits and background. Pacing, directness, and use of silence matter. Short blunt sentences feel different from rambling ones. One character might joke to avoid tension while another stays silent. Speech habits often come from how someone grew up and tie into their personality type, attachment style, and defense mechanisms.
This generator rolls four separate layers, because a voice is not one setting. Communication style covers the shape of the sentences, from sparse and declarative to dense and expansive, or halting and deliberate. Humour style covers what a character finds funny, which is often the fastest read on their worldview: satire and cynicism point somewhere very different from benevolent humour or nonsense. Emotional vocabulary covers how precisely they can name what they feel, from somatic (my chest hurts) to highly articulate. The most useful layer is usually what a character refuses to say. A person with a wide emotional vocabulary who deflects every serious question with a joke is telling you something no adjective will.
